Latest M&A (admittedly half-baked) audit of the 1000-puz count situation…

    * By my count, BEQ has published 958 puzs so far at his website. This evidently does not count any of his "guest" puzs, as they did not get numbers.

    * By my count, M&A has published 968 puzs up til now at this Runtpuz website. This count I think excludes most of the extra-neat "guest" puzs, currently included on the runtpuz.org list. (This is tricky-ish to verify, tho; I spotted at least one runt that wasn't actually credited to @BG1, f'rinstance.)

It's up to you when the fire works go off, either at 1000 or 1028. I will offer a copy of the graphic novel "Fun" that Rex Parker mentioned recently to a randomly selected winner. People can enter the contest by posting their names in a comment followed by !!. I will post the winner at Rex Parker and they can email me where they want the book sent. In the spirit of anonymity that permeates this site they don't have to use their real names but the winner needs to give me a real address.

  133. "Runt Country" - about three minutes, pen on paper, no erasures. Quite a bit of nice trivia there. I wasn't absolutely sure which category each entry fell in, which slowed me down a bit. (Reminds me of the question, once posed by Will Shortz, "What is the only nationality which is a palindrome?")

P.S. to Teedmn - Yes, the cactus is still thriving, and has grown 5 or 6 inches in the last year, now almost even with the top of the second story window.

P.S. to M&A - Those bloodhounds over at Runt Central sure are thorough! The truth is, just a week or so before I left on vacation, I was hit with some lower back pain, which the doctors have not brought completely to heel yet. When I sat down to do "Undercover Gals" I was distracted with pain and a general grumpiness and frustration, and when I didn't get the gimmick, I just quit and didn't post any comment. Sorry, it won't happen again (I hope.)

Also passed Parowan, Utah on a recent roadtrip and saw a sign announcing that it was the home of the best cinnamon rolls in the West. See https://parowan.org/best-cinnamon-rolls-in-the-west/
