BTW, I am leaving on Wednesday for two weeks at Mall Orca. For the first eight days I will be on my own, which means no keyboard, which means I may not be doing any Runts. I promise to catch up eventually.
@BobK. - U are one dedicated runtfan. Thanx. Unfortunately, you'll have to draw a bunch of black squares for this next one, if solving on paper. Hint: The black square pattern is like this: [*=black,o=white] *ooo*oo oooo*oo ooo*ooo **ooo** oooo*oo oo*oooo oo**ooo
M&A-- Thank you for your kind consideration, but I really feel bad for you taking all the extra effort of listing the grid pattern. After all, when I open the puzzle, I see the grid, and it only takes an average of 2.6 nanoseconds to blacken each appropriate square in my prepared 7 x 7 diagram.

p.s. I wrote this puppy yesterday, and posted it right away, before I could get cold feet. For obvious reasons, the cluin tended to lean toward a bit desperate. A recent homophone-clued NYTPuz kinda opened up the whole "desperate clue" conceit, which got my pronto attention.
p.s. Was gonna collaborate with a famous movie star on this, but they all turned m&e down. All the movie stunt performers did, too. All the movie CGI matte painters in India did, also. This could be a sign ...
"Headed to Grandma's mine" is puzzle #1100. I have updated the list of M&A puzzles and also the Runt corpus which now has 12,187 words up from 11,002. Patrick Berry immunity words are up to 3,311 from 3,069. And there are now 483 two letter words which is 483/676 = 71% of all possible two letter words.
Finally @Teedmn has decided to give someone else a chance to rewin the crossword puzzle graphic novel and the new winner is @BobK!! Feel free to use this blog to figure out how to get the book.
Oy! Halloween is still ten days away, but I am already at a triple witching time! I have a WSJ puzzle with seemingly too many possibilities for an answer, a Matt Gaffney puzzle with seemingly too few hints to the answer, and now a contest I didn't even know existed. I have rewon the "crossword puzzle graphic novel"?!? I don't remember ever having heard that there was such a thing, let alone that it was up for grabs. And now I have to figure out how to get it? Sorry, my ideas on the subject begin and end with, "Teedmn, if you are coming to Stamford in March, could you bring the book?"
(Please mentally sprinkle this post with smiley face emoticons -- I'm honored but puzzled!)
Ralph refers to the book, "Fun" by Paolo Bacilieri (no matter how many times I write that name, I can never remember it), a graphic novel about the history of crosswords plus a mystery. I don't know if you remember at Lollapuzzoola, when @Tita said to me, "I wish I'd known you were going to be here; I just sent something to you." The book was the prize for the randomly chosen person who congratulated M&A for his puzzle 1000 accomplishment on the Rex blog and Tita won. After she finished it, she wanted to share it and Ralph suggested me as the next recipient, to sort of coincide with my birthday.
I would be glad to send it to you via US Postal Service if you want to email your address to me! No need to wait until March.

Hey! Congratz to BEQ, who recently issued non-runt puz #1000 on his website! M&A is mighty impressed. I'd go down there and buy the dude a brewski, if I wasn't so day-um anonymous.
@M&A - Apropos your comment of October 21, that you had picked up a copy of FUN: I read the book this past Sunday, and found a note inserted by Teedmn at page 206 saying, "French runt clues, har!" referring to YSE.
(I asked, and she said it was OK for me to pass this on.)
@BobK. -- In leafin thru the FUN book, I was kinda relieved to see no (original) runtpuz references. Gave it more credibility, somehow. Hats off to @Teedmn, tho, for establishin some runt territory, after the fact.
OK … sooo … road trip got delayed slightly, as M&A hurt a back muscle while loadin "piano-like" furniture into the bus. Therefore, thought I'd toss in this lil guy, before we leave ….

@M&A - Apropos your comment of October 21, that you had picked up a copy of FUN: I read the book this past Sunday, and found a note inserted by Teedmn at page 206 saying, "French runt clues, har!" referring to YSE.
ReplyDelete(I asked, and she said it was OK for me to pass this on.)
@BobK. -- In leafin thru the FUN book, I was kinda relieved to see no (original) runtpuz references. Gave it more credibility, somehow.
