    It occurred to me that I hadn't seen a runt in a few days, so I went to the blog. Seems like, even though I had checked the "follow-up comments" box, I had been thrown off again. And just now, when I wanted to post this comment, it wouldn't take until after I went around to some other blogs and checked the "Comment as " box a few times (they showed my Google account; Runtpuz had not.) I did make one change recently: I upgraded(?) to HighSierra. Wonder if that loused up something?

    Since the people on this blog are the smartest group I know, perhaps you can explain something to me.

    In the latest Technology Review Puzzle page is the following:

    Speed Department
    Ermanno Signorelli reports that ‘‘Adam is looking only at Beatrice, but Beatrice is looking only at Calvin. Adam is married but Calvin is not.’’ Ermanno wonders if a married person is looking at an unmarried person.

    The answer which is given is simply "Yes."

    Can someone explain this in terms that a simpleton like me can understand?

    There are three possibilities:
    1. Beatrice is unmarried. Then a married person (Adam) is lookin at an unmarried person (Beatrice).
    2. Beatrice is married. Then a married person (Beatrice) is lookin at an unmarried person (Calvin).
    3. Beatrice is a border collie. Then the whole shebang falls apart.
