  1. I posted a list of 5 runtpuzs for @George to solve, as the last comment in the previous block of 200. Would've posted six, except the Blorg wouldn't let me do that, for some reason. Even the Blorg has its pride, I reckon. So, will have to unleash the last "Desperate Word Square" some other time.

    Just checked, and two of those five in the list have not been worked, by any test solvers.

    Hope this all makes sense.

    Thanx.

  9. Callin a Runtpuz Ceasefire, until a couple of our honored test solvers can re-arm, re-assemble, and re-runtflush. They are currently waaay behind, on runt puzzle solving.

  10. That was a very short Ceasefire! Could almost call it a Syrian-style ceasefire, but that would be unfeeling.

    @BobK.-
    Near-Runtpuz is "nearly" a runtpuz, becuz:
    * It usually has grid size 7x7.
    * It usually shows the letter U proper respect.
    But it is generally different from a "regular" runtpuz in these ways:
    * No double-?? clues.
    * No runt-rolls.
    * No circles used to resolve desperate situations.
    * Minimum of 15 black squares.
    * Very few scoreboards, brief cases, or short forms.
    * Easier to solve. In theory.
    * Different, trans-1000 numberin system.

  48. Ah, I see it now. Thanks for hitting us over the head, M&A. Very cool.

  49. Veeery interestin…
    I wonder what the best way woulda been to go, on that "Who's Our Leader?" runtpuz. I had figured the title had a pretty good chance of givin the "meta" hidden name away … but, no dice.

    Some alternate approaches…?:
    * Call the runt "Who's Our Leader in Hiding?"
    * Re-tool the 14-D clue, to say {Org. that's a hint to a hidden leader, linked to the circled letters in this runt puzzle?}. Or somesuch.
    * Just tell solvers there's a hidden name meta puzzle to be solved.

    These subtleties fascinate the M&A.
    Hopefully, all test solvers will give m&e another chance, as I begin to hone my "Locker Room Talk" runtpuz.

  64. This was my Wed 19 Oct comment at Rex Parker, that I tried 3 times to enter there, but no luck. Let's see if it sticks its landin, here…
    --------------------------------
    Airtight theme, with clever revealer. Actually, there don't seem to be a lot of good themer leftovers (lefties), here. Maybe PRO-MISER? Or if U want to get desperate, maybe PRO-FITCENTER?
    The starts of the themers do become mighty predictable, but it's only 3 letters-worth, and it's only a WedPuz, so … ok.

    Fill was too smooth for school. Even the weejects were pretty well-behaved. For staff weeject pick, I am PRO-ORA. Smooth fill really cuts down on my comment bullets, unfortunately.

    Usually ECRU makes @RP go ape-sh*t, so I suspect he had more respect for this WedPuz than he chooses to display in public.

    Only weak moment: A cross-referenced semi-obscure name of a band member. IAN + ANDERSON is totally obscure to m&e, but evidently well-known to other solvers. That's the way it goes, with names.

    PANORAMA anagrams to PRO-AMANA, btw. Comments are even startin to sound desperate? Thought so. I'm outta here…

  116. @BG1 asked recently what was different about a "Near Runtpuz".
    Biggest difference in theory, is that it is easier.
    Other usual differences:
    * No weird runtpuz tricks, such a runt-rolls, circled add-on letters, or double-?? clues.
    * More black squares; usually about twice as many as a runtpuz. That way, M&A gets to cook up cooler grid patterns.
    * No theme.
    * Limited use of "scoreboard" abbreviations.
    * Always has #1001.

    They're still usually the same size as regular runtz, tho.

    Hope that helps.

      Would hesitate to escalate the downsizin strategy U mentioned any more; BEQ might retaliate, and start makin 11x11 grids, or somesuch. (Actually, full disclosure: I've done a few "Near-Runtz" that kinda already snuck a lil ease-of-construction factor into the runtmix. har.)
